Nueva Segovia - Nicaragua - Medium
One of Nicaragua’s higher-altitude growing regions, Nueva Segovia has a reputation for producing coffees that punch above their weight. Crops from the area have consistently performed well in Nicaragua’s Cup of Excellence program, and this particular lot is a good example of why.
The first thing you’ll notice is the mouthfeel: rich, round, and smooth, like a hot buttered rum on a chilly fall evening (or morning, or afternoon — you're an adult and can drink hot buttered rum whenever you want, just please do it responsibly!). Zingy orange zest and sweet vanilla aromatics bring a subtle complexity that really wakes things up.
It creates a beautifully balanced, pleasant cup of coffee without being boring, which is a line I think coffee should walk more often. I’ve enjoyed it most through an AeroPress, Nextlevel Pulsar, and a good old-fashioned home brewer, where all that sweetness and body have plenty of room to do their thing.
