Bener Meriah - Sumatra - Dark
One of the most common requests we get is for a dark roast Sumatran.
To keep things odd, ours falls into the dark, but not too dark, category — not oily, not bitter, and not so dark that you forget what you're drinking. What you end up with is round, well-developed, and surprisingly smooth, with notes of butterscotch, milk chocolate, and an earthy sweetness that hits somewhere between nostalgia and a rainy afternoon. I challenge you to find me a more pleasant smell than petrichor. Go ahead, I'll wait... Back so soon? Don't worry, I could do it either.
Wet-hulled, the way Sumatra does it best, it's a modern take on a classic coffee.
The Kopsen Sepakat Gergung cooperative is made up of smallholder families growing coffee alongside fruits, spices, and other crops. Bener Meriah sits in the northern highlands of Aceh, Sumatra, where coffee is a primary source of income, and for many, the backbone of rural life.
